Hold onto the Chair

Islamic wedding traditions follow Muslim law and while each country has its own variances for the most part they follow the same principals. A large percentage of Muslim weddings are still prearranged and in many cases the groom is not permitted to see the bride before the wedding day. At the wedding ceremony and reception the sexes are segregated. Performed at many Arabic weddings is the practice of carrying the bride and groom on chairs while dancing around them in a circle. The dance performed is called the “Dabke”, which is a traditional folk dance.
