Summertime is the most popular time of year to get married in Sweden, with around 20 hours of sunlight you can’t get a better time to marry. Traditionally Swedes will live with each other for a couple of years before getting married. On the day of the wedding the bride will have a gold coin in her right shoe and a silver coin in her left one, to make things even more difficult to walk the bride’s shoes will stay unlaced, which is suppose to enhance the chances of easy childbirth.

Kiss the Bride and Groom

There are many Danish wedding traditions. One that occurs before the wedding vows is the construction of an arch made out of pine branches, called the “Gate of Honor”. The arch is placed in front of the bride’s home. Another tradition that occurs at the reception involves the groom disappearing for a while and then all the men at the reception kiss the bride. The role is then reversed and the bride leaves the room and all the girls kiss the groom.
